Life is confusing enough without having to suffer what this man has endured so far. Jamie was born a woman, but never really identified as one, so he embarked on a trip that would take him years and would make him traverse an array of emotions, from sadness and rejection, to acceptance and happiness. He now sports a new body and a new life, and people online are surprised by his flawless transition. But his awe-inspiring tale of metamorphosis was full of obstacles.
He’s a musician from Michigan who just a couple of years ago came out as trans and decided to document his journey and publish it online on Instagram.
UNDERSTANDING HIS TIMELINE
Jamie was born a woman and lived as one for almost 18 years. That doesn’t mean he was happy about it though. Now he’s 21 and you could say has a different perspective on life.
HIS WAS A STRICT AND UNFORGIVING FAMILY
Jamie was raised in a conservative American household, so he was forced to hide his pain for his own safety. “I had to put my identity and feelings aside until I was able to be on my own. I knew the situation would not have been good, or safe if I came out that young.”
YOUR TEENAGE YEARS ARE WHERE YOU FIND YOURSELF
And Jamie did that at the age of 15 while attending high school. He finally realized he was trapped in the wrong body, but his social and familiar environment would prevent him from doing anything about it.
HE LONGED FOR CHANGE
He recalls going to the store and trying men’s clothes in secret. He would later keep men’s intimates in a secret drawer and cover them with female lingerie, so his family wouldn’t find out.
HIS OUTLET WAS HIS MUSIC
He found that music was an outlet for his bottled up feelings and emotions. He plays guitar and writes his own songs to this day, and what turned out to be a hobby, later turned into a profession.
A TRULY COURAGEOUS MAN
Once he was 18 he decided to come out as trans to his family, but all his fears came true when the family didn’t react well to the news. They outright rejected and disowned him, and in the process, broke his heart.
HE WAS MORE THAN HAPPY TO START THE PROCESS
“I remember cutting my long hair off and how, although the world remained the same, it felt like a whole new one! Emotionally, I felt content, and noticed my social anxiety and stress level sort of just disappeared. I became a happier and lively person. I became me,” he said about the transition.
IT’S NOT ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK
His transition came as a surprise to people because according to them, he “did not show signs” of wanting it. He “looked really feminine.” In reality he had been suffering for years unable to do anything about it.
JAMIE IS PAYING IT FORWARD
He found tremendous support from people on the internet who tracked his progress online, so he decided to fight for others in a similar position to his. He might have lost a “family”, but he gained his sense of self.
