Ashley Schmeider and James Sisson refused to have a typical church wedding and opted for a more outdoor setting. How outdoorsy was it? Try a 17,000-foot-high base camp on Mount Everest, and it only took them 3 weeks to get there, but it was worth it and they have the epic wedding photos to prove it.
HIKING EVER AFTER
32-year-old Ashley Schmeider and 35-year-old James Sisson are finally married, but it wasn’t exactly a walk in the park to get to where they were. In fact, it wasn’t a park at all, but a mountain top way up high.
LOVE CAN’T MOVE MOUNTAINS
But the couple certainly proved that their love could help them climb one. So Ashley, James, and their wedding photographer Charleton Churchill travelled to Nepal and decided to go climb to Mount Everest.
TREKKING FOR LOVE
It took them the better part of 3 weeks to reach the 17,000-foot-high Base Camp Everest, and in that time, the couple along with Churchill, had to brave freezing temperatures, snow, and altitude sickness.
ANYTHING FOR YOU
Churchill managed to take photos of the unusual ceremony and we have to admit that it was definitely worth it. Just look at the spectacular blend of rich blue, crisp white, and rugged stones in the background.
NOW THAT’S DETERMINATION
It’s actually an amazing way to make the relationship stronger, like having confidence in each other and motivating one another to get to the top. You have to admit, climbing a mountain for love is pretty amazing.
THE ONE-YEAR TRAINING
It took Ashley and James a year to train their bodies for the nearly one-month journey and that in itself is pretty awesome, especially when you consider how many people have perished attempting a similar perilous trek.
THE NEXT BEST THING
The couple wasn’t actually on Mt. Everest, but rather the Base Camp which is nowhere on the mountain itself. In fact, you’re not on it until you’re well past the ice fall, but it’s still quite a feat to pull off for love.
THE WEDDING FOOTWEAR
Of course, you couldn’t expect James to wear shiny black loafers while Ashley wore conventional bridal shoes, at least, not unless they were willing to slip and slide back down the mountain or get frostbite on their feet. So instead they wore these so they would be as steady as their love.
THE COSTLY LIFETIME OF MEMORY
Ashley and James will have a lifetime of memories to share together and they can look back at this oh-so expensive moment, which probably set them back about $115,000, but we’re sure they’d agree that it was worth every penny.
THEIR LOVE PEAKED
If this experience has taught them anything, it’s that their love will continue to peak for years to come because if they could survive the harsh conditions of Mount Everest, they can survive anything.
