Do you ever wonder why people as handsome as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie can never stay in a relationship, while others like Tori Spelling get to have a long-lasting relationship, despite a few hiccups? Well, according to a Harvard study, beautiful people have a bigger chance of winding up divorced.
YOU’RE TOO HOT
Attractive people are more likely to experience shorter relationships that will end up in divorce because quite simply, they have this sex appeal that puts a dagger in their happily ever after.
TRACING YOUR HIGH SCHOOL CRUSH
In the study, women were asked to rate how hot 200 men from their school yearbook were. Then, researchers traced these men’s relationship histories, which included their marriages and divorces.
People who consider themselves less attractive were less likely to find others attractive once they’ve entered into a committed relationship, but then again that’s because they’re mere mortals compared to Hollywood’s elite.
SPUNKY AND SINGLE
The men who were ranked as the spunkiest also had the shortest marriages. So the study was applied to 130 celebrities, and it blew the lid off why some celebs are hot, but often divorced.
MARRIED, NOT DEAD
According to social psychologist Professor Christine Ma-Kellams, people who are good looking often find other people attractive, even when they’re in a relationship. So their eyes and other things tend to wander.
THE HOLLYWOOD LIE
We’re always aiming to look hot and sexy like a Hollywood star, but Ma-Kellams warns that if you limit yourself to your valuation of physical attractiveness, this may not bode well for a long-lasting relationship.
DOOMED IN LOVE
We’re not saying that anyone that looks like Scarlett Johansson or Chris Hemsworth is doomed in love, but it’s certainly giving us average looking people a bit more hope of finding true love and making it last.
THE GRASS IS GREENER
In essence, the more attractive you are, the more prone you are to the grass is always greener on the other side mentality. So you’re constantly on the hunt for something better or someone more beautiful. Good luck, Brad Pitt!
MORE OPTIONS MORE PROBLEMS
According to the study, attractiveness gives you more options in terms of relationship alternatives, which might make it harder to protect a relationship from outside through, according to Ma-Kellams.
THE PERFECT IMPERFECTION
Here you thought that the fugly hairy pimple on your chin would leave you chronically rejected. Who knew that it could actually lead to you finding your Cinderella or your Prince Charming and living happily ever after?
