It’s been four years since the TV series, “The Office” went off the air. While all you fans know that it depicted the everyday lives of the employees at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania, there are some interesting facts about this single-camera comedy that will blow your mind still today.
1. STEVE CARELL SWEAT A LOT
During the shooting of the series, the temperature on the set had to be kept at 64 degrees because Carell couldn’t stop sweating. Eventually the crew had to invest in space heaters just to stay warm.
2. ART IMITATES LIFE
If you actually met Steve Carell, Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and B.J. Novak, you might not be able to tell them apart from their TV characters because their personalities were incorporated into their character’s personalities too.
3. THE INTERRACIAL MISS
It turns out that Jim and Pam would have been an interracial couple had Craig Robinson (Darryl) and Erica Vittina Phillips (Darryl’s ex-wife) been cast in the role.
4. BBC VS NBC
While Krasinski was in the audition room, he almost lost out on the role after he told a man, whom he later learned was the executive producer, that he loved the British version and that Americans have a tendency to just really screw these opportunities up.
5. SOME DIDN’T QUIT THEIR DAY JOB
Oscar Nunez, who played Oscar Martinez, didn’t think the show would be a hit, so he kept his original two jobs as a server and a babysitter when he first got the role on “The Office”.
6. SAND IN HIS EYES
During the filming of “Beach Games”, Rainn Wilson kicked sand in Leslie David Baker’s eye by accident. So Baker wound up being rushed to the hospital to undergo treatment for a scratched cornea and an eyeball cleaning.
7. LAUGH OUT LOUD FAIL
Rashida Jones came pretty darn close to getting fired on her first day on the show after laughing her butt off at Steve Carell’s improvised lines.
8. ALL YOU NEED IS A LITTLE KISS
The cast’s reactions in “Gay Witch Hunt” were totally real when Jim Carell’s character wound up kissing the character of Oscar instead of hugging him like the script intended.
9. SURF WHILE YOU WORK
When the cast was given real computers with internet, many of them started reading the news, playing online games, and chatting online, especially when they nothing else to do but just sit there in the background.
10. THE $5,000 ENGAGEMENT RING
Jenna Fischer wound up keeping the $5,000 engagement ring that Jim gave to Pam, and was seen wearing it on television to this day. Guess diamonds really are a girl’s best friend, and pretty freaking impossible to part with. But can you blame her?
