Did you know that some of today’s biggest celebrities have famous parents who were once even bigger than them? These stars probably wouldn’t be who they are if it weren’t for their parents’ influence, which helped launched their careers, but it’s their innate talent that turned them into icons. So here are some celebs that really owe it all to their mom or dad, and in some cases, both.
NICOLE RICHIE AND LIONEL RICHIE
You might know Nicole Richie as one half of the spoiled duo from “The Simple Life”, an MTV show from the mid-2000s that also starred Paris Hilton. But did you know Nicole is actually the adopted daughter of famous singer Lionel Richie? Lionel was a sensation in the 80s with hits like “All Night Long” and “Hello.” He adopted Nicole when she was 9 and has indulged her every whim since then.
THE SMITH FAMILY
TV and movie actor Will Smith’s influence is undeniable when you look at his children’s careers. His son Jaden Smith has starred in several movies like “Karate Kid” and “After Earth” and his daughter Willow Smith is a rising musical talent, launching her debut album ARDIPITHECUS in 2015. Talent is one thing this family has plenty of.
EMILIO ESTEVEZ AND CHARLIE SHEEN SHARE A TALENTED FATHER
The brothers share a talented father named Martin Sheen. Martin has a stellar career with hits like “Apocalypse Now” and more recently TV shows like “The West Wing” and “Grace & Frankie”, and his sons have followed in his footsteps. Emilio is known for “The Breakfast Club” and “Repo Man” and everyone remembers Charlie from “Two And A Half Men” and “Hot Shots”. But why does Emilio have a different last name? Well, it turns out that Martin was born “Ramón Antonio Gerardo Estévez” and used “Martin Sheen” as a stage name all these years. So one son took on the mantle and the other one didn’t.
LILY AND PHIL COLLINS
Lily has had an impressive career over the years. At 2 she was on the BBC show, “Growing Pains”. Then she pursued a career in journalism while juggling modeling gigs and writing for Seventeen magazine. She also starred in “Priest” and had guest appearances in several shows. Oh, did we also mention that she’s the daughter of worldwide phenomenon and 80s singer Phil Collins?
BEN STILLER LOVES HIS DAD
We bet you’ve seen Ben in almost every comedy he’s done for the last 20 years. So there’s no need to add anything more about the actor that made movies like “Meet the Parents” and “Zoolander” so incredibly fun to watch. But have you seen a crazy old coot in some of his films playing his father? Well, it turns out that it’s his real father, famous actor Jerry Stiller, known for his roles on “Seinfeld” and “The King of Queens.”
KIEFER AND DONALD SUTHERLAND
Kiefer William Frederick Dempsey George Rufus Sutherland, or just Kiefer Sutherland for short, is known for his role on “24”, and future “mother” of Hansel’s kid in “Zoolander 2.” He’s also Donald Sutherland’s son, a man who also has an impressive acting career, but his films are on the more serious side. “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” and “JFK” where some of his most iconic roles.
ANGELINA JOLIE AND JON VOIGHT
Although related, they had an estranged father/daughter relationship for several years. Jon left Angelina and her mother when she was only one year old, and only came back into her life when Angie’s mom struggled with ovarian cancer. Later, they would publicly reconcile their relationship in 2010. They were seen acting together during the Jolie’s film “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.”
KATE HUDSON AND GOLDIE HAWN
The star of “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” and “You, Me and Dupree” won our hearts with her hilarious rom-com roles, which probably probably wasn’t hard for her to find, as there was plenty inspiration at home. Her mother was doing the same just a decade before her! Turns out Kate is the daughter of lovable actress Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, but because Bill left them when she was only 18 months old, she considers her mother’s long-time boyfriend Kurt Russell to be her real father.
MAY THE FORCE BE WITH THEM
Carrie Fisher left us too soon, and tragedy struck twice when her mother died just a week after her. Carrie was known for her role as Princes Leia in “Star Wars” and her guest appearances in “Family Guy.” Her mother, Debbie Reynolds, was an actress, singer and humanitarian, and had starred in roles in “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Charlotte’s Web.”
LIKE FATHER, LIKE DAUGHTER
Is there anyone who hasn’t heard at least one of Frank Sinatra’s songs? Known as “The Voice”, his was a spectacular career, with dozens of great songs and even some roles in movies of his time. His daughter, Nancy also had her own career as a singer, with hits like “These Boots Are Made for Walkin’” and a duet with his father called “Something Stupid.”
