Kool-Aid is one of those iconic products that many identify with childhood summers. Originally invented by a chemist in 1927, Kool-Aid has gone on to be used for more than just drinking. It’s cheap, smells great, and can be applied to almost anything.
MAKE SOME PLAY DOUGH
Playtime is more fun for kids and adults with some yummy homemade Kool-Aid scented play dough. (Try not to eat it!)
USE IT AS A TOILET CLEANER
Really. The acid in Kool-Aid is strong enough to clean your toilet bowl. Dump a whole packet of orange or lemon Kool-Aid into the toilet bowl, scrub away any stains, and then let it sit overnight. Flush in the morning and enjoy the citrusy smell.
YOU CAN USE IT TO DYE YOUR HAIR
You just know that the uber bright colors have got to stain more than just kids’ t-shirts. Next time you’re feeling festive or want the latest Katy Perry hair color, skip the salon and do it yourself.
TRY TIE-DYEING SOME SHIRTS
This is a great activity to do with kids. All of the materials can be found at your local store, and anyone can create a one-of-a-kind t-shirt.
GO AHEAD AND SANITIZE YOUR DISHWASHER
It’s not a homemaker’s myth: you really can clean your dishwasher with lemonade Kool-Aid. In an empty dishwasher, pour a packet of KA into the detergent section and turn it on. The citric acid in the mix will take out any stains.
BEAUTY ALERT: DIY LIP GLOSS
If this isn’t awesomesauce I don’t know what is. You can actually make your own sweet-smelling lip gloss using Kool-Aid and petroleum jelly or coconut oil.
MAKE YOUR OWN WINE
For real. Obviously it isn’t the estate variety, but everyone will get a kick out of it (and maybe a little buzz, too).
GET ARTSY WITH KOOL-AID PAINT
Kids will love painting with Kool-Aid scented paints, and parents will love it for the cheap cost. All you need are some mix packets, brushes, and water, and a heck lot of imagination. You can use any materials you find around the house and get ready to have so much fun!
GET GOOEY WITH SOME SLIME
Wow the little ones with this edible slime that smells and tastes like Kool-Aid. Not sure how the texture will be, but you know kids—they’ll eat anything that isn’t a vegetable.
SWEET HEAVEN, IT’S A KOOL-AID PIE
This easy to make, no-bake pie is everything you didn’t know you needed. Use any flavour packet you want, and you’ve got the perfect treat to serve on hot, sunny days. Don’t forget the pitcher of Kool-Aid!
