It’s difficult to juggle your life as a student as it is, but it’s especially hard if you’re a single mom too. This is what happened to Morgan King, a 21 year-old student from Tennessee who had to attend an important class but couldn’t, as she couldn’t find anyone to take care of her child that day. She wrote an email to her professor explaining the situation and apologizing for it all, but her professor’s response showed her and the world that there’s still some educators out there that care for their students…so, so much!
MORGAN AND KORBYN
Morgan’s daughter, Korbyn, is only 3 months old so anyone can understand that she cannot be left unattended. So, when mom couldn’t find someone to take care of her, she decided to skip classes instead. What’s a new mommy going to do? Your children come first, even at the expense of getting your smart on at school!
IT WAS AN IMPORTANT CLASS
Morgan is studying Therapeutic Recreation at the University of Tennessee, and the class she had to miss was extremely important for the new mom, so she knew she would have to ask her professor for an extension on a project she had to work on, and this bookworm wasn’t going to fail… not if she could help it!
THE PROFESSOR’S RESPONSE
But Morgan was incredible shocked when she read Professor Hunter’s response. She not only supported her decision to stay at home that day, but also offered to take care of Korbyn, Morgan’s baby, next time she couldn’t find a babysitter! When life gives you lemons, you take them to class!
SHOW AND TELL
Overwhelmed by her professor’s heartwarming response, she decided to show it to the whole world. She posted it on Twitter and didn’t give it much thought. All she wanted was to let her close group of followers know how great her professor was. But what happens in social media stays in Google forever!
THE TWITTERVERSE HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN
Since you can’t really expect to keep things private on a public social network like Twitter, the tweet went viral faster than you can shed a tear after reading this beautiful response. Everyone was retweeting the image of Professor Hunter’s email. Momma Morgan decided to let the Professor know her innocent post had went viral, as she didn’t want it to catch her off-guard. But she beat her to it! Good news travel fast!
SPREAD THE LOVE
The professor sent her another email making fun of the whole thing, because this woman just couldn’t be cooler! Of course, she mentions how offering to take care of Korbyn while teaching the class was “the right thing to do,” but we all know not everyone would have done the same.
Everyone loved the response Morgan got, so hundreds of replies poured in, mentioning how noble the professor was and how they wish they had someone like her in their own colleges and schools. Hey, we’d even settle to have her as a friend, you know?
THE NOT-SO-NUTTY PROFESSOR
Having a kid and having to skip class to take care of them felt too close to home for others, who mentioned how they’ve been there, struggling when they have to decide whether to be a parent or a student. Some students had the opportunity to take their children to class, via the good graces of their respective teachers.
SINGLE AND READY TO MINGLE…WITH HER CLASSMATES
When asked about her situation by a local TV station, Morgan said, “We all need people around us, people supporting us. Nobody can do this journey by themselves.” It certainly shows that her professor’s actions touched her life and heart, in more ways than one.
PROFESSOR HUNTER IS TRULY A CLASS ACT
She added, “I literally started crying because it’s just so rare, especially teachers in general nowadays. They care to help the students and their obligations outside of the classroom. The fact that somebody was just willing to work with me and to excuse me from the quiz I missed and how to get caught up on that assignment, it just showed that she cared more about, not that I missed class that day. She really just wants me to succeed in that class.”
