Postpartum depression is a clinical condition that affects women all around the world. Common symptoms include overall sadness, irritability, crying, inability to eat, and anxiety. Sometimes we see celebrities as people who are out of this world, but famous moms are also victims of the baby blues. Here are some of the most famous celebrity moms who have battled against this kind of depression.
1. GWYNETH PALTROW
When her second baby Moses was on his way in 2006, actress Gwyneth Paltrow imagined another period of happiness would follow. This time, however, she experienced a lack of connection to her baby. She felt like a zombie and, after four months of suffering, she discovered she was under the influence of postpartum depression.
2. CELINE DION
When she had twins, her heart did not go on and on as she expected. Canadian singer Celine Dion experienced fatigue, lack of appetite, and crying for no reason. What a way to kick into maternity!
3. COURTENEY COX
Six months after her baby girl Coco was born, Friends star Courteney Cox admitted she went through a really hard time. She had trouble sleeping and her heart kept racing super fast. Sadly it was not a very friendly experience for Cox.
4. ALANIS MORISSETTE
Alanis went through a pretty rough and intense time. After her experience, she recommends other moms-to-be to seek out for help earlier than she did; it’s completely normal and you shouldn’t have to go through this alone. Don’t you think?
5. ANGELINA JOLIE
You might remember her from her movie roles of strong women, but postpartum depression also weakened Jolie. After the birth of her twins Knox and Vivienne in 2008, Angelina suffered from mood swings that affected the whole family. She felt like sleeping all the time and yet had no energy; she was even forced to eat because she was breastfeeding—and to improve her health, of course.
6. BRITNEY SPEARS
Undisputable princess of pop, Britney Spears went through two pregnancies within a year and was so overwhelmed that her career was put at risk. After all, post-natal depression can leave any woman like 2007-Britney.
7. KRISTEN BELL
Kristen Bell didn’t exactly go through postpartum depression, but rather a kind of inability to bond with her newly born Lincoln right away. Her feelings changed in 24 hours and she received her baby with all her heart.
8. LISA RINNA
Mom of two, Lisa Rinna encourages all moms to talk about her postpartum feelings. She claims pregnancy is not easy, and opened up about asking her husband to hide all knives from their house. Now that’s a horrible request!
9. AMANDA PEET
After the birth of her first child, Amanda confessed going through a pretty tough postpartum depression. She wishes this condition stopped being such a taboo so that more moms would dare to start sharing their experiences.
10. BRYCE DALLAS HOWARD
34-year-old Jurassic World star, Bryce remembers crying every day and not being able to eat normally. She even got mad at her husband because he kindly offered her help but she knew there was nothing he could really do—yeah, the baby blues also affect daddies.
